We spent 4 nights on the Oregon Coast for spring break, staying at Cape Lookout State Park for our camp.  This is the same park we stayed at last year during spring break.  We had such a fun time last year that we had decided to come to the same place again for this year.

On the second day we traveled down to Cape Kiwanda to have lunch and walk around the beach and the cape.  It was overcast but it was a beautiful day and we enjoyed exploring the beach and rock formations as if we had never been here before.  After a good half hour of walking around we had worked up our appetites and headed into the Pelican Pub for lunch.  The food was delicious as always and after we had filled our stomachs we headed down the coast to visit Lincoln City.  We had tent camped in Lincoln City on a California trip several years back but the town was so fogged in at the time that we didn’t get to see much of it at all.  This time around the weather was much better behaved and we drove around a lot of the back streets taking in the views.

We had endured a lot of rainfall last year, and this year proved to be quite wet as well.  But I think that we had somewhat better weather this year in that the first two days were actually quite nice.  The third day was true to form.  Both last year and this year we chose a day to drive up to Cannon Beach and find a nice spot for lunch, with the intention of walking on the beach afterwards.  We thought we were going to luck out as the day started off overcast but no rain at all.  We had a nice lunch at a local spot in the tourist section.  As we were walking back to the pickup to head down to the public beach it started to rain. Oh well, Cannon Beach, I guess you foiled us again this year.

The fourth day we chose to be lazy and relax.  A good choice since it rained most of the day and was quite blustery too.

It was a great day to lounge about and read books, drink some coffee, and just generally relax.  Our final morning gave no reprieve from the spring rains.  We had to button up the trailer and get going even though it was raining pretty good.  I was soaked through to the skin by the time I was done getting everything put away, tied up, and hooked on.  We had a nice drive up the Oregon coast to Astoria, where we headed inland along Highway 30 until we reached the Lewis and Clark bridge and crossed into Washington.  We were dreading the afternoon traffic through Joint Base Lewis McChord but it actually wasn’t all that bad.  We had had a great time on our spring break, just like last year, but it was nice to get home and get the trailer tucked away until next time.  Oh, and the flamingos had a great time too!  Although they never did make it to the beach.  I’m sure they are glad to be home too but will be ready for our next trip when we head out again.
